Rural Skills Scotland at RHS

Rural Skills Scotland was in attendance at the Royal Highland Show today to unveil details of the new SVQ Level 2 Estate Maintenance.

The qualification, which will open for registrations in September 2015, has been developed in association with rural employers and industry bodies after they identified a move away form the employment of individuals to carry out specific tasks, to employing those who were proficient in a number of estate maintenance activities.

Aimed at Estate or Agricultural workers who are employed and who wish to obtain a formal qualification, this new multi-skills qualification cuts across topics such as health, safety and security; working with others, machinery maintenance, environmental good practice, emergency planning, path maintenance, game and wildlife habitat management, joinery, roofing and plumbing.

It is expected that the delivery of this multi-skills SVQ will take place at the students’ workplace rather than bringing students together in a traditional classroom on block release, thereby greatly reducing the amount of time required to be away from the workplace.
